The Spiritual Journey

Dr. Basu Ray was born in a middle class Bengali family in Kolkata, India. From a young age he was keenly interested in knowing the secrets of this universe and the entity called ‘God’. This led him to read most of Indian religious and spiritual literature particularly writings of Swami Vivekananda and Maharishi Aurobindo. He has been practicing meditation from the age of six years.
Childhood interest was soon replaced by a dire hunger to know the truth behind this creation and the secrets of human existence. Classics like The Tao of Physics by Fritjof Capra further enhanced his curiosity. He understood that eastern sages and philosophers thousands of years ago have reached similar conclusion, as the scientists of today, by studying the universe and its function through a mind that is in deep meditation. This further fueled his inward journey and he started his own experimentation with meditation.
Dr. Basu Ray had the good fortune of meeting most of the living gurus in India at that time. He got initiated into the rites in 1990, by Swami Hariharananda Giri, a master from a powerful meditation lineage called Kriya Yoga. It is an ancient form of Yoga that boasts of some of the most renowned gurus including Mahaavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya and Paramhansa Yogananda. Besides Kriya Yoga, Dr. Basu Ray has also practiced on an experimental basis other meditation techniques like the Vipassana. Dr. Basu Ray regularly delivers lectures and conducts workshops on the integration of Vedanta philosophy and modern science. His meditation sessions are particularly held for the common man and also doctors in different parts of the world, to popularize the use of meditation in both preventing and curing diseases. He has been an invited speaker at multiple university and academic campuses and corporate groups, on how to use meditation as a technique to reduce stress, prevent diseases and achieve professional success. In the course of his extensive research in this field, Dr. Basu Ray has developed a simple technique to go into deep meditation that can be practised at one’s own leisure, for a healthy, stress-free and productive existence.
